Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 cup water (or as directed on seasoning packet)
  • 1 can pizza dough (or crescent roll dough)
  • 8 Colby Jack or mozzarella cheese sticks
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)

Equipment

  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 rolling pin
  • 1 sharp knife or pizza cutter
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 parchment paper sheet
  • 1 pastry brush

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. Add taco seasoning and water to the beef. Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Roll out the pizza dough and cut it into 8 long strips.
  5. Place a small amount of taco meat and one cheese stick onto each strip of dough.
  6. Carefully roll the dough around the filling and pinch the edges to seal tightly.
  7. Place the cheesy taco sticks seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder if using.
  9. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Do not overfill the dough to prevent cheese from leaking.
  • Let taco meat cool before assembling for best results.
  • These cheesy taco sticks are freezer-friendly and great for make-ahead kid lunch ideas.
